Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Spice Salted Caramels are a great deal for the money. Comparable to some other “higher-end” chocolates, they’re a great treat for Halloween, Thanksgiving or the autumn months in general, with a very unique flavor.
The outside is, as the box describes, dark chocolate, which is neither too rich, nor too sweet. It is the perfect complement for the filling, which is caramel—but does have a pumpkin-like taste to it, as well. The caramel is more of a lighter texture and not a gooey type of caramel, perhaps because of the pumpkin qualities that are added.
At the top of the chocolates are little sea salts in an orange color, adding to the fall theme of the chocolate pieces. The salt used is actually red Hawaiian sea salt, and they do have a strong salty taste; if you don’t like sea salt and chocolate, the taste may be overpowering.
“Pumpkin Chiffon Chocolate”
One of the best things about these chocolates is that somehow, they are very reminiscent of pumpkin chiffon—but only if you don’t happen to get a lot of the sea salt all at once when eating a bit of these pieces. Not everyone may agree with this observation, but if you like pumpkin chiffon, these are especially worth a try.
Trader Joe’s tends to have very good chocolate at reasonable prices, and this autumnal offering is no exception.
